The Glendale Sanctuary Choir traces its roots to the Glendale Seventh-day Adventist Church, a congregation founded in 1920 that steadily grew alongside its surrounding community. Although little was formally documented about early music efforts, the construction of a new sanctuary in 1970—with a choir loft, organ, and piano—created the conditions for a thriving music ministry. By the mid-1970s, a small group of dedicated singers gathered informally, preparing the way for what would soon become an organized and enduring choir.

That turning point came in 1975 with the arrival of Giomar and Rene Marsollier from Argentina. Invited to observe a rehearsal, Giomar was unexpectedly asked to lead within minutes—an experience that clearly felt like a calling. By 1976, she was officially appointed Minister of Music and Choir Director, becoming the founding director of the Glendale Sanctuary Choir. Over the years, the ministry has been shaped by three key directors: Giomar Marsollier, who established its spiritual and musical foundation; John Brown, who served in the late 1980s and brought additional musical refinement during his tenure; and Dennis Marsollier, who became Minister of Music and Choir Director in 2004 and continues to lead today. Each director has contributed uniquely to the choir’s identity, ensuring both continuity and growth across generations.

In the decades that followed, the choir grew into a dynamic and inclusive ministry, welcoming singers from multiple churches and even different faith backgrounds. Its outreach expanded through the creation of a touring choral ensemble, the addition of a handbell choir in 1995, and the development of an orchestra that enriched its performances. Pastoral leadership has also played a vital role in sustaining and encouraging the music ministry. Among these leaders, Gary Venden stands out as the longest-serving pastor in the church’s history. Since arriving in 1997, Pastor Venden has been a strong and consistent supporter of the choir, helping foster its growth from a small group into a large, vibrant ensemble. His encouragement, participation as a musician, and commitment to integrating music with worship and preaching have significantly strengthened the ministry’s impact.

Since 2004, under the continued direction of Dennis and Claudia Marsollier, the leadership team and the ongoing support of Pastor Gary Venden, the choir and orchestra have experienced renewed growth and expanded influence. With large-scale concerts, community outreach events, recordings, and broadcasts, the ministry continues to reach beyond its walls.

 

Today, with the addition of a flourishing children’s choir, handbell choir, and annual signature events such as Festival of Praise and Songs of Thanksgiving, the Glendale Sanctuary Choir remains devoted to its mission: sharing the love of God through music and pointing hearts toward hope, faith, and the promise of Christ’s return.
